The energy unleashed on your equipment from unchecked rod float is tremendous. The cost of repairing the damage is equally sobering. Consider a typical case.

The cost of a repair rig will average $550 an hour in the Permian. A cheap rig might run $400; an expensive one $700.

If you are completing a full tubing job, the cost could easily run $20,000-$25,000 on a shallow well of 2,000-3,000 feet. On a deep well (say 8,000 to 10,000 feet) the cost can fall between $50,000 and $70,000! Granted, if the repair is a simple insert pump change, your cost might be half of those numbers.

That is still a ton of money spent on repairs that can easily be prevented.
